Job Title: Program Manager (Community of Practice)
Reports to: Director of Programs
FSLA Status: Exempt, Full time
Pay Rate:  $70,000-$80,000 / year

Summary: This role manages the organization’s Community of Practice strategy and initiatives as a project manager, coach, and practitioner of Reflective Structured Dialogue in close collaboration with the Director of Programs and Director of Marketing and Communications.

Duties & Responsibilities

Community of Practice (COP) Management (approximately 50-60% of role)

  • With the Director of Programs, develop, implement, and iterate the COP strategy to increase and diversify COP engagement in alignment with strategic goals
  • Organize and facilitate COP webinars, gatherings, office hours, & virtual/ in-person events
  • In collaboration with the Director of Strategic Communications, create stories, resources and guides for COP members
  • Develop relationships with COP members that lead to new donors, press, projects, and deeper impact

Project Design, Management and Delivery (approx. 20% of role)

  • Design and deliver workshops and dialogues as a practitioner with clients, including:
    • Curriculum development and iteration 
    • Training, facilitation, and design of trainings and dialogues
    • Coaching and consultation as part of client work and grant projects
  • Support and manage larger projects and grant-funded initiatives that include strategic engagement with COP

Business Development with New and Repeat Clients (10%)

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partners and leaders in markets 
  • Take intake calls, writes proposals, creates budgets, and updates org-wide project management systems related to business development (Asana, Salesforce)
  • As staff lead for projects, ensure alignment, complete staffing, high quality project delivery, and accurate and timely reporting among funders, practitioners, clients, partners, consultants, and staff

In addition, this position is expected to participate in organizational life via regular staff meetings, occasional in-person gatherings and events, as well as any other meetings necessary to support effective collaboration across teams and roles. The position will be responsible for reporting and documentation requirements to maintain effective and reliable organizational systems as necessary and appropriate. (In total, approximately 10-20% of role) 

EP retains the right to change or assign other duties to the position as needed.

Effective implementation of these responsibilities will result in:

  • A robust Community of Practice marked by increasing numbers and increasing depth of participation, a broadening sense of connectedness to Essential Partners and each other, a sharing of wisdom and care, and representation of the people we serve. 
  • New donors, press, projects, and deeper impact in the world as a direct result of our Community of Practice Strategy
  • Funders and donors continue to invest in Community of Practice programs based on exceptional impact, relationships, and management of funds

Qualifications & Personal Characteristics

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience with community of practice engagement and/or management (or similar experience supporting, connecting, coaching, and leveraging a group or community, e.g. through volunteer coordination, community organizing, alumni engagement, with outward-facing communications responsibilities)
  • Demonstrated networking and relationship-building skills, with the ability to model and advance EP’s mission both in group situations and in one-on-one conversations
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, including proactive and independent development of work plans, timelines, and budgets; grant management experience preferred
  • Ability to bring a strategic and creative mindset to both big picture conversations and individual or group coaching
  • Before leading work with clients in the field, this role will also need to fulfill the qualifications and embody the personal characteristics of a Junior Associate role. (While this role does not require experience as a practitioner in Reflective Structured Dialogue, it does require experience in the broader work of dialogue and an interest in becoming a practitioner in Essential Partners’ methodology.)
  • Excellent cross-team collaboration, with demonstrated ability to work across stakeholder groups, personality types, functional areas, geographies, and differing levels of seniority
  • Practice with multi-cultural or intercultural understanding, and applied practice of culturally effective communication
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Technological aptitude with Google apps, project management software (Asana) and data systems (Salesforce)
  • Bachelor's degree or corresponding life experience
  • A commitment to cultivating a culture that values and invites diverse identities, worldviews, and perspectives
  • The ability to: remain in a stationary position for at least 50% of the time; operate a computer and other office productivity machinery; travel locally and nationally; and communicate information and ideas in-person and virtually so others can understand

Compensation & Workplace

Essential Partners is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. This position is a full-time position with competitive benefits including sick leave, new parent leave, four weeks of PTO, retirement matching, and medical and dental insurance. The approximate salary ranges from $70,000-$80,000 annually depending on experience.

Essential Partners is a fully remote organization; all employees are required to be residents of approved states and territories of the United States of America and are able to work remotely from anywhere. Essential Partners does not currently base salary rates on location, and offers both initial funding as well as monthly connectivity stipends to ensure all employees have access to a safe, secure, healthful, and comfortable work environment with the equipment and tools required for their role. Employees work with their managers to set work schedules, but in general, full-time employees are expected to be available at minimum between the hours of 10:00AM and 3:00PM Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, with flexibility around other hours. EP also hosts regular in-person retreats, which are scheduled in coordination with employees to ensure all staff are able to gather regularly in-person. This role requires occasional domestic travel and some time outside of normal business hours to lead projects with clients and partners, host events, pursue relevant professional development opportunities, or build strategic relationships.
